Book & Chapters
Just type a book and a chapter and it will automatically link. It won't link with just a book, or just a chapter, it must be both with a space in between, like this: Genesis 1
Single Verses
Just type any verse like you normally would and it will automatically hyperlink if your book, chapter, and verses are correct, such as: Genesis 1:1
Chapter or Verse Ranges
Just type a hyphen and another verse to link to a verse range without a space, like this: Genesis 1:1-3.
For chapter ranges, just do this:
Mark 1-2.
Abbreviations
You may also use commonly used book abbreviations, for example: Gen 1:1 • Ex 20:1 •
Deut 6:4, Ps 119:105, 2kgs 2
Accepted abbreviations: gen, ex, lev, num, deut, josh, judg, ru, ezr, neh, ne, est, jb, ps, prov, ecc, song, isa, jer, lam, ezk, dan, hos, ob, jon, mic, nah, hab, zeph, hag, zech, mal, matt, mk, lk, jn, act, rom, gal, eph, phil, col, tit, philem, heb, jas, jud, rev, 1sam, 2sam, 1kgs, 2kgs, 1chr, 2ch2, 1cor, 2cor, 1thess, 1tim, 2tim, 1pet, 2pet, 1jn, 2jn, 3jn.
Series
Just type a comma between each individual verse you want to list for a given chapter. Important note: it doesn't allow spaces between the commas and verses. You can list up to 10 verses in a series. For example: Genesis 1:2,4,7,12,15
Mixing all together
As with any technology, there must be rules and boundaries to operate in an efficient and consistent manner. If the above rules are followed the Bible verse references will be hyperlinked. You may list multiple Bible verse references in a row separated by a space, period, comma, semicolon and they should link properly. Ranges and series can't be combined, however. It's only one or the other per book and chapter reference. For example: Gen 1:2,4,7,12,15. Gen. 1:2-5. Gen 2:2,4,11 . Jn 3:16 ; Mk 10
Fast & Reliable Worldwide
The widget script is hosted on a worldwide CDN network that is blazing fast and very reliable, with multiple locations around the world.
The database is the precise and accurate KJV text from the King James Bible Online. Users have the option to view more verse details, such as original Strong's meanings from Greek and Hebrew and commentary.
Customizable
You may add custom css to match to the color/style of your website.
You can tell the script where it is allowed to operate. If your website already has scripture references in titles, clickable links, navigation, sidebars, you may not want the widget to link everything on the page. In this case you can simply target a specific div tag (add your div ID after the targetSelectors javascript code).
Integration Code Example
Add the widget code to any site (including WordPress, Wix, Shopify, custom html) with a few lines of code. Note: the code below will not work yet. Contact us to activate API.
<script>
document.addEventListener('DOMContentLoaded', function() {
BibleTooltip.init({
apiEndpoint: 'https://kjv.website/api/verse',
targetSelectors: ['body'],
apiKey: 'your-api-key'
});
});
</script>
